Pep Guardiola has received an injury boost ahead of the new season with full-back Danilo not required to have surgery on an ankle knock.

The 26-year-old damage ligaments during a training session for Brazil at this summer’s World Cup, but decided to stay in the camp until the Seleção were knocked out.

Initial fears were that the Manchester City defender would have to go under the knife, but that’s been denied by the Manchester Evening News, who claim that scans have revealed just tear one damage.

It means that Danilo will have to sit out the start of pre-season training, but could well be back in action by the middle of September.

The Premier League champions go to America to play in the International Champions Cup competition, before kicking off their domestic campaign against Arsenal.
