The writing may be on the wall for Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac, even if he wins the Bundesliga title on Saturday.

Bayern are two points clear of Borussia Dortmund heading into the final day of the season.

However, they will finish on their lowest points tally since the 2011/12 campaign, the last year they didn’t win the league.

Kovac, who joined Bayern from Frankfurt last summer, will be sacked this summer even if he wins the league, according to Goal and Spox.

Bayern still have a chance of sealing a domestic double this season and face RB Leipzig in the DFB Pokal final on 25 May.

Even that, though, may not be enough to save his job. The Croatian has failed to convince with the style of play this season and Bayern lost failed to make it past the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time since 2011 by losing to Liverpool.

With Bayern set to rebuild, they may not have seen enough this year to allow Kovac to take them into a new era.

Club icons Arjen Robben, Franck Ribéry and Rafinha will all leave at the end of the season.

The clock is also ticking for other key members of the side – Manuel Neuer is 33 and increasingly sidelined by injury, while Mats Hummels, Jérôme Boateng, Javi Martínez and Robert Lewandowski are all 30.

The next year or so will be crucial for the club’s future. If they don’t think Kovac is the man to lead them through the next few years, it would make sense to cut their losses now.
