In a time of little good news, Bayern Munich have been handed a positive, with defender Niklas Süle issuing an optimistic update on his comeback.
He has been out of action since October, when he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during a fixture against Augsburg.
Earlier this month, he returned to training and as the football season’s suspension rumbles on due to the coronavirus pandemic, it increases his chances of featuring before the conclusion.
That was something that looked impossible at the time of the injury but Süle claimed he is now almost ready to make his return.
“I’m very satisfied with where I stand now,” he told Sky Sport.
“Everything went as I had hoped it would so I am naturally pleased.
“In fact, I think I would have been able to play in the European Championship if it had went ahead.”
At present, the Frankfurt native is working from home like the rest of his Bayern team-mates.
However, it cannot be ruled out that he returns to action in May if, as kicker reported, games resume behind closed doors.
