Ahead of Friday’s 3-1 Bundesliga victory at Hoffenheim, Bayern boss Niko Kovač named Niklas Süle their number one centre-back on the team sheet.

Speaking to German outlet Sport1, Süle reflected on being chosen ahead of World Cup-winning defenders Mats Hummels and Jérôme Boateng.

“I have been allowed to play a lot of games and am very satisfied with my role.

“I think that I’ve earned the trust of the club, and they see that they can trust me as well.

“At Bayern you have to deliver in every game; we have two players at every position and only have top players.

“If you don’t play one or two games so well, you’re back out of the team pretty fast.”

Süle has started 17 of Bayern’s 18 Bundesliga matches this season.

Bayern, still six points behind first-placed Dortmund, are back in action this Sunday when they face relegation-threatened Stuttgart.
