It’s been two years since Nicolás Tagliafico joined Ajax from Independiente for just €4m. Since then, the 25-time Argentina international has arguably turned into one of the better left-backs in all of world football.
It’s no wonder the 27-year-old has received a plethora of offers from other clubs around Europe, but for now, Tagliafico is staying put.
“I have a contract until 2022,” Tagliafico told Argentine outlet TyC Sports.
“Last year some proposals emerged. The club and I talked about the best thing, which was to stay for another year without listening to any offers.
“This year, we will see what happens. I did not renew my contract.”
The defender also commented on how important it was to stay focused when going from playing against some of the best teams in the world to much less difficult competition in the Netherlands.
“Here you are obliged to win every game and fight for the cups until the end.
“We do not expect just to finish first in the Dutch league but also in the Champions League and transition from one extreme to another.
“That change of mentality is fundamental and you have to be very focused.”
Ajax, who currently hold a six-point lead in the Eredivisie standings, will play away at Groningen this Sunday.
