Nicolás Castillo confident leg injury is 'nothing serious' | OneFootball

Nicolás Castillo has played down any injury concerns after he was forced off during Club América’s 5-0 win over Veracruz on Friday.

The striker had scored earlier in the game to make it 2-0, but he was substituted in the 65th minute due a muscular injury his right leg.

He showed discomfort in his groin/hip area after taking a free-kick and then signalled to the bench that he needed to come off.

The 26-year-old Chilean insisted afterwards that the move was precautionary and he will be able to report for international duty.

“I felt a little discomfort. I had been dragging it a week ago but it’s nothing serious,” Castillo told Fox Sports.

However, on Monday, the Chilean national team announced Castillo suffered a ‘straight anterior myotendineal tear of the right quadriceps’ and was sent home.

From América’s perspective, they will hope their hitman is fully fit for the upcoming Liguilla campaign. It’s predicted that Castillo will miss around 2-3 weeks.
