Gilberto Martínez’s journey to the World Cup was supposed to be a magical, once-in-a-lifetime experience that he was going to share with his wife and two kids, eight-year-old Diego, and six-year-old Mia.

However, just two months before the start of the tournament, Martínez’s family all died in a traffic accident.

The story reached Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa who made sure Martínez was able to step onto the pitch prior El Tri’s upset of Germany.

Ochoa also made sure that Neymar got word of his story since son Diego had asked his father to attend the match between Brazil and Costa Rica, as he was a huge fan of the Brazil star.

Neymar reached out to Martínez in a classy minute-long video.

“Hello Gilberto, I’m here to say hello, and to thank you for your affection. I can’t imagine how you’ve spent the last few months and how hard it’s been for you, but you have to be strong for your family and fulfill your dream. Thank you for your words and for being fond of Brazilian football, I hope to keep playing like this while being happy on the pitch, because having fans like your boy or mine is what makes me happy.”
