Even though Newcastle owner Mike Ashley refuses to give Rafa Benítez any money to spend in the January window without his discretion, the Magpies finished 19th in the 2019 Deloitte Money League – an annual list that ranks the top-earning football clubs in the world.

Ahead of big names such as Napoli and Ajax, Newcastle brought in an astonishing €201.5m, with West Ham just behind in 20th with €197.9m.

Newcastle are back in the top-20 for the first time since the 2014-15 season while the Hammers have fallen from 17th place, down from €213.3m the year before.

Everton also enjoyed a €13.7m increase in revenue, bringing in an eye-watering €212.9m. They moved up from 20th place to 17th in the table.

Unsurprisingly, with all that television money, nine of the top 20 teams are in the Premier League.

Manchester United, City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham are all in the top-10 – the first time any one country has had six teams in the top-10.

Real Madrid top the list with €750.9m, dethroning Manchester United, while Barcelona’s €690.4m was good enough for second place.

Deloitte forecasts that Newcastle will remain on the 20-team list as long as they avoid the dreaded drop, while West Ham could fall out completely if they suffer another loss.

Can someone please give Rafa Benítez a transfer kitty to play with?
