After impressing Newcastle’s scouting staff, Lille forward Victor Osmihen is now a major target for the north east side.

That is according to a report in the Chronicle, which claims that winter transfer plans are already well underway.

The story states that the club’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson and his staff have been left very impressed by the Nigeria international.

Osimhen joined Lille in the summer from Charleroi for just over £10m and has adapted quickly to life in Ligue 1.

He has scored eight times in 11 appearances this season at the age of just 20 to attract serious attention from the Magpies.

Although Newcastle are not reportedly eyeing major moves this winter, Osimhen will likely form a big part of their plans in January.

They will then apparently focus their attention on a squad overhaul next summer.

Five players’ contracts run out at the end of the campaign, while Henri Saivet, Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons will all be allowed to leave.
