Newcastle United are in talks to sign Nice forward Alassane Pléa having already had a €30m bid turned down.

Pléa, who scored 21 goals for the Ligue 1 club last campaign, is also the subject of an offer from West Ham, according to Sky Sports.

Tottenham and newly-promoted Fulham have also shown an interest but are yet to lodge a bid.

The 25-year-old, along with Mario Balotelli, missed Nice’s first training session of the new season on Monday and it seems new boss Patrick Vieira would be willing to cash in on the attacker.

“We were supposed to have all the players [available]. Unfortunately, those weren’t there,” Vieira said of the duo. “We are trying to get to the bottom of it.

“We were expecting him [Plea] today but he wasn’t here and it wasn’t foreseen. My wish is to keep the players who want to be part of the project.”
