Newcastle are reportedly eyeing a move for CSKA Moscow’s €30m-rated defender Mario Fernandes.

Both DeAndre Yedlin and Javier Manquillo could leave Tyneside this summer leaving Rafa Benitez without a senior right-back.

As such, the club have been casting their net across Europe in the hunt for a defender, and seem to have landed on one of Russia’s World Cup heroes.

The Mirror claim that the club have made Fernandes their number one defensive target during the off-season but the move will depend entirely on whether Benitez remains to next season.

The 28-year-old has played 34 times for CSKA this term and played a key role in Russia’s path to the quarter-finals this time last year.
