Newcastle have reportedly emerged as surprise contenders for Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson.
Sanson enjoyed an impressive 2018/19 campaign, scoring six goals and assisting five in 38 appearances.
According to L’Equipe, the Magpies are leading the race for his signature despite strong interest from West Ham.
It’s understood that disagreements with his agent stalled a deal, allowing Newcastle to steal in at the eleventh hour.
The report claims that €20m would be deemed feasible by Marseille who are in considerable financial trouble.
Manuel Pellegrini has since diverted his attention to Porto striker Moussa Marega, who could arrive in east London for €35m.
