New York Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett has admitted that his club would consider an offer for star centre-back Aaron Long.
Long was the subject of interest from West Ham over the summer but the move failed to progress due to work permit issues.
The 2018 MLS Defender of the Year and United States international centre-back has a modest £5m release clause and with Josh Sims set to extend his Red Bulls loan spell, it seems an agreement could be a win-win situation for everyone involved.
“Aaron is under contract with us for next season,” Hamlett said when pressed about Southampton’s interest.
“What I would say is, if there are offers for our players, we will consider them individually, assess them, and figure out if it’s the right decision.”
Southampton have conceded 31 Premier League goals this season, giving them the worst defensive record in the English top-flight.
