As the Bundesliga fast approaches, there’s much debate over whether or not Borussia Dortmund can stop Bayern Munich from winning their eighth-straight German title.
Former Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotić, now with Union Berlin, is optimistic that his old club will lift the trophy should Bayern not add any more reinforcements.
“If the Bayern squad stays the same it is Dortmund. Very clearly. I say that as a former BVB player and fan.”
Mats Hummels played with Subotić during his entire first stint at the club and the Serbian admitted he was extremely happy to see his former team-mate return to the Westfalenstadion.
“I congratulate him,” Subotić said.
“The team will benefit from him. He won four titles at Bayern during the last three years, while Dortmund only won one during that period.
“Dortmund will get a lot of experience in Mats. It is a big chance for him.”
Subotić featured 263 times for Dortmund, winning back-to-back titles in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons while also lifting a pair of DFB Pokal trophies in 2012 and 2107.
