Many Celtic supporters were claiming the Premiership title on Wednesday night as Celtic blew out Hearts 5-0 while rivals Rangers simultaneously suffered a dramatic 2-1 defeat away at Kilmarnock.

With the victory, Neil Lennon’s side moved 10 points clear of the ‘Gers as Celtic celebrated their 12th win in their last 13 games in all competitions.

“It might give them a bit of confidence but that’s about it,” he said. “We have a tough game on Sunday [against Aberdeen] at Pittodrie. We are taking absolutely nothing for granted.

“The players know there is a long way to go and there will be twist and turns as we go along.”

With the rout, Celtic have extended their league-best goal total to 77 (one goal below three goals-per-game) and now also possess the Premiership’s best defensive record as well (15 goals against).

“They were magnificent tonight,” Lennon added. “Their desire, hunger to play, score goals, run; everything you want from a team I got tonight. It was an emphatic victory.

“It’s just another game ticked off. There’s still a long way to go. It gives us a bit more of a margin but things can flip at any time. I’m just delighted with our performances at the moment.”

Celtic will now have to quickly shift their focus as they play away to third-placed Aberdeen on Sunday.
