New England Revolution defeated the Western Conference leaders, Sporting Kansas City, with a lonely and controversial goal scored by Teal Bunbury.
Bunbury was standing in a clear off-side position when he got the ball in the box before displicently slipping a near post shot. It looked like even he thought it wouldnât count.
Sportingâs defenders and goalkeeper didnât seem to do much to stop Bunbury as they assumed the off-side call will prevail.
But after VARâs intervention, the decision was overturned, and Bunburyâs goal was granted. The criteria that gave the Revs the goal, was that as KCâs Roger Espinoza attempted to take the ball away from Diego FagĂșndez, he unintentionally ended up âpassingâ to Bunbury and therefore enabling New Englandâs forward to score.
This was Sportingâs first defeat since Matchday 1, which ended a seven-game undefeated streak.
