Liverpool are open to selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January but won’t let him go for a penny less than €140 million.

That’s according to Catalan outlet Sport, who say the two clubs have re-opened negotiations for Coutinho in recent days and the Brazilian could finally complete his switch to Camp Nou next month.

Paris Saint-Germain are also thought to be interested in the 25-year-old but he’s made it clear the only offer he’s willing to accept is Barça’s.

But Coutinho will only be allowed to leave Anfield if the Reds are able to sign a high-quality replacement for him first. Monaco winger Thomas Lemar – for whom Arsenal were quoted €80m on transfer deadline day – is high on their wish-list and according to Mundo Deportivo, the Ligue 1 club have already indicated that they will allow the 22-year-old to leave in January if his asking price is met.

What is not yet known, however, is whether Barcelona are prepared to break their transfer record to sign Coutinho. The €105m they splashed on Ousmane Dembélé in the summer is the club’s highest transfer fee to date and, even though they’d likely pay in instalments, the Blaugrana board are reportedly concerned by the idea of another significant outlay in the winter window, which would make Coutinho the second most expensive player in the history of the game.

The diminutive playmaker has notched up nine goals and seven assists from 16 appearances so far this season. How many more he’ll make in a Liverpool shirt remains to be seen.

Barcelona’s fans and players all want him to come, but it’s going to cost them a pretty penny if he does.
