New Tottenham manager José Mourinho faced the media for the first time on Thursday.
The Portuguese was named the club’s new boss on Wednesday morning and has overseen two training sessions so far.
Here’s what he told the media in his first press conference since taking change.
“I’ve been smiling for two days.
“First of all I do it with a bit of sadness, I have to speak about Mauricio.
“I have to congratulate him on the incredible job he did.
“This club will always be his home, this training ground his training ground. He is always welcome here.
“Tomorrow is another day, he will find happiness soon. He will give everything like he did at this club.
“He will leave with sadness with the feeling that he did great work. It is what everyone at the club felt.”
“I had time to think about many things.
“During my career, I made mistakes. I’m not going to make the same mistakes. I’ll make new mistakes.”
“The potential of the club is huge.
“The potential of the players is great I am so happy that was one of the reasons I came because of the vision that Mr Levy put in front of me about the club and the quality of the players and the squad.
“I know potentially I have a great job in my hands.”
“The best gift are the players who are here. I don’t need new players. I just need to get to know these ones better.
“I know them well but you never know them well enough until you meet them.
“I told the players I came here because of them.
“I tried to buy some for different clubs and some I didn’t even try because you know how difficult it was.
“Very similar to before. Of course I will try to add details, and sometimes details can make the difference.
“Progressively we can arrive to a fingerprint.
“The style of play must be adaptive to the club culture and also the players here.”
“We can’t win the Premier League this season.
“Next season, I’m not saying we will win it, but we can win it.”
“I think I am Mr. Porto and Mr. Real Madrid and other clubs as well, I am whatever club I am at.
“I wear the pyjamas of the club and sleep in them. I am a club man, but I am a many club man.”
“I am humble. I am humble enough to analyse my career, and the problems.
“There was no one else to blame … I went really deep in that analysis.”
“I was always humble. The problem was that you didn’t understand that. I was always humble but it was in my way.”
“From an emotional point of view I’m relaxed, motivated and ready and I think the players felt that these two days.
“I’m ready and I’m here to support them.
“In life you go through periods like this, where it’s not about myself, it’s about my players and my club.”
“When I don’t win I’m not happy. I cannot change that.
“If you are happy by losing football matches, it’s difficult to be a winner in any moment of your career.
“But the emotional control to keep the self esteem and confidence and in those around you is very important.”
