Fourth-placed Atlas traveled to the state of Michoacán to face Monarcas Morelia, who sat in 14th place in the Liga MX table.

The Clausura 2019 matchday 5 contest started with early pressure from the visitors but neither side scored until the second half.

After a partially cleared corner kick in the 36th minute, Edison Flores struck a shot off the crossbar from outside the area. Goalkeeper José Hernández was rooted to the spot but did react well to the follow-up header from Roberto Meraz.

In the 52nd minute, Atlas found joy attacking up the right wing through Jesús Isijara. The 29-year-old Mexican midfielder saw his shot saved by the face of goalkeeper Sebastián Sosa, though.

Receiving a superb flick-on from Osvaldo Martínez, Isijara’s shot deflected off centre back Emanuel Loeschbor to beat Sosa at the near post in the 62nd minute.

Substitute forward Irven Ávila did well to take a centering pass out of the air and his shot deflected off Nicolás Pareja before Hernández slapped a glove at it. Gastón Lezcano was waiting in the goal-mouth to tap in the equaliser in the 80th minute.

Wing-back Edgar Zaldívar bombed up the right wing before playing a well-weighted pass into the feet of Facundo Barceló inside the area. The 25-year-old Uruguayan forward quickly tucked his shot inside the far post in the 85th minute to win the match for Atlas.

The victory moves Atlas up to 10 points after five matches in the Clausura 2019. After matchday 5, Monarcas remain on four points and cannot have enjoyed losing in the closing minutes at home.
