Game of the weekend 🙂

LA Galaxy v New York Red Bulls

This pick for the best game of the weekend is purely based on entertainment value and has the potential to be a high-scoring thriller.

It hasn’t been the best week for Zlatan Ibrahimović after he and the LA Galaxy were only able to put one shot on target against Atlanta United in their 2-0 defeat. It was also confirmed that Sweden will not be taking Zlatan to the World Cup.

The Red Bulls also have a lot to prove this weekend after getting upset by the Chicago Fire 2-1 at home, falling victim to an incredible display by Fire goalkeeper Richard Sánchez.

NYRB have had no trouble in the offensive third, putting 29 shots on target in their last three matches in all competitions.

Honorable mention: NYCFC v FC Dallas. Expect a low score, but an intense battle between two teams that have just one combined loss this season.

Potential upset 😢

Colorado Rapids over Orlando City

Despite losing Tim Howard in the 19th minute to a red card, the Rapids were able to hold their own for 80 minutes last weekend against Real Salt Lake before finally conceding a penalty and eventually losing 3-0. Colorado is undefeated at home this season and have been playing well above expectations, but will be without their goalkeeper for this clash.

Orlando City come in on a four-match win streak but looked very shaky closing out their 3-2 win over the San Jose Earthquakes, giving up two goals in the last 15 minutes.  It’s also their first trip away from the East Coast this season, having played host for five of their seven matches, so jetlag may play a factor.

I think Colorado wins and vaults themselves into the MLS spotlight.

Honorable mention: Minnesota United over Houston Dynamo

Keep an 👁 out for

Toronto FC’s post-CCL form

Article image:⛅ MLS Weekend Forecast: Get ready for goals in LA

Late Wednesday night in Mexico, TFC spectacularly came back from 3-1 down on aggregate in the CONCACAF Champions League Final to force penalties. The magic ended there, as Chivas scored all four of their shots while Jonathan Osorio and Michael Bradley missed for Toronto to hand the Mexicans the title and continue Liga MX’s stranglehold over the competition.

The Reds will likely be both physically and emotionally wounded from their loss. Their deadly trio up top will all be reeling, with Michael Bradley and Giovinco showing obvious signs of wear while Jozy Altidore may lack match fitness after leaving the match early.

Toronto FC had focused their efforts and saved their best players for the Champions League and now have to flip the script. There will be some hangover and the Fire could take advantage.

Chicago goalkeeper Richard Sánchez has been in wonderful form as of late, making nine saves in their 2-1 upset of the Red Bulls on the road last week.
