Amaury Vergara could take over for José Luis Higuera as the president of Chivas and is preparing to make a real splash in the transfer market for the 2019 Apertura.
According to reports out of Mexico, he will aim to bring the LAFC star Carlos Vela back to Chivas, where it all began.
Major League Soccer’s leading scorer, currently on 11 goals for the season (three goals above Zlatan Ibrahimović), would be a major boost for the Chivas squad in their hopes of overcoming relegation next year.
The 72-time Mexican international has scored 26 goals and added 16 assists in 41 games for LAFC since moving from Real Sociedad in January 2018.
With Chivas and Querétaro both winning over the weekend, the two sides are now each one point above Atlas in next year’s relegation table.
Chivas and Querétaro are each on 71 points through their last 67 matches (1.0597), while Atlas is on 70 points (1.0448).
