Club América manager Miguel Herrera mocked his opponent after losing to Pumas UNAM on Sunday.

The Águilas lost to their local rivals in the Clásico Capitalino at the Olympic University Stadium thanks to a lone goal from Carlos González.

After they took the lead early in the second half Bruno Marioni’s Pumas held on, much to the chagrin of his counterpart.

“They have achieved their season’s objectives now, right?” Herrera chided after the match.

The comment was a reference to the statements widely published in Mexico from Pumas sporting director Leandro Augusto that stressed ending their drought against América was a top priority for the club.

The felinos had not won in their previous 11 matches against América. Their most recent encounter before Sunday was a 6-1 drubbing in favor of the azulcrema on 10 December in the Liguilla semi-final second leg.

Herrera returned to a serious note after getting in his jab on Pumas.

“We have to change and to attack a little bit more. Today it turned to them to finally win a game,” the Coapa technical director said.
