It would have been easy for Miguel Herrera to blame the bad start to the season on the departures of Diego Lainez and Cecilio Domínguez.
However, Piojo pointed to the next-best excuse: América’s injury woes.
“In this tournament, players started getting hurt the first week. The injuries have followed us.
“Mateus Uribe and Oribe Peralta looked like they would recover quickly, but this has not been the case.
“It is normal that a team with these circumstances do not fare so well. Unfortunately, we have not achieved the results, but we are aware that we have a great squad and that little by little, they are recovering.
“We also had very little rest from one tournament to another, the calendars for the Copa MX are very tight.”
América will have a good chance to bounce back when they host Lobos BUAP on Saturday.
