In his post-match press conference, América boss Miguel Herrera admitted his side was tired from their mid-week Copa MX triumph.
After a hard-fought 1-0 win in the final against FC Juarez, Club América and Cruz Azul battled to a 0-0 draw and Herrera said he was happy with the way his team played.
“In the first half, we played very hard and wanted to look for the result; the second half was more even and the team was fatigued.
“We concentrated and it is a result that we do not like, but as long as it is not a loss, we continue to add points,” he declared.
“It’s normal when you have a mid-week final, what it takes to win it, you do not celebrate it as much.
“The trip was heavy, it was an off day, it’s normal, tension eases a bit. But the best thing that could have happened was that the team concentrated on the match against a good opponent in Cruz Azul was good and we earned a draw.”
América are in sixth place in Liga MX on 23 points with three games to play, three points above ninth-placed Puebla.
They will next travel to Toluca on Sunday.
