Prior to boarding a flight to Playa del Carmen, where Club América will gather for pre-season training, Miguel Herrera addressed the media and responded to questions regarding the future of centre-back Edson Álvarez.
Álvarez has been linked with a number of European sides after a fantastic year of football for both club and country, starring at the World Cup and winning both the Liga MX and Copa MX titles.
Despite signing a new deal in May, Herrera admitted that the 21-year-old will likely leave the club this summer.
“I see him far from staying, he is a player who is attracting the attention of many clubs in Europe.
“But as long as he doesn’t leave, I still consider him at the club. I reiterate, he is an attractive player because of his age and his form at the moment.”
Ajax, Atalanta, Celtic, Fiorentina, PSV, and Wolves have all been linked to the player, who reportedly has a $10m (€9m) release clause.
