Newcastle United may be without the services of Miguel Almirón for the rest of the Premier League season.
The play-maker suffered an injury to his hamstring during the second half of the team’s 3-1 win over Southampton and was in visible pain leaving the pitch.
After the match, Magpies manager Rafael Benítez discussed how the 25-year-old Paraguayan will cope with the setback.
“It is his first injury of this type. He was doing well and the fans love him.”
“It is a hamstring injury, but we will have to see how he is. We will have to speak with the doctor and see how he reacts.”
Newcastle have three league matches remaining in their season. In addition to losing Almirón, Newcastle also saw Fabian Schär and Isaac Hayden leave the game due to injury.
“He was working very hard, and it is not easy for a player who was doing well in another country, at a massive club in front of 52,000 fans, to then get injured and maybe have to be out for the rest of the season.”
The midfielder moved to Tyneside for €24 million from MLS Cup Champions Atlanta United in January.
