Tony Pulis will leave Middlesbrough after the club decided not to extend his contract.

Middlesbrough ended the season one point outside of the play-off places.

Pulis, who was appointed in December 2017, led the club to the play-offs in 2017/18 but couldn’t repeat the feat this year.

Boro conceded the fewest goals in the Championship, just 41, in 2018/19. However, only four teams scored fewer than the club’s 49 goals.

The defensive playing style favoured by Pulis brings results but has been criticised by supporters and pundits alike.

Former Boro defender and current first team coach Jonathan Woodgate is the favourite to take the job.
