After taking over in August 2015 after moving from his post as leader of Liga MX, Decio de María has resigned from his post as president of the Mexican football federation.

Decio de María vowed in March to step down after the World Cup and has fulfilled his promise, handing over the reigns to Yon de Luisa.

De Luisa assumes the presidency of the MFF with a lot of pressure to deliver results, most importantly with the national team.

De Luisa has worked as vice president for special and sporting events for media giant Televisa Deportes. The 46-year-old has also been the president of the organizing committee for the 2011 Under-17 World Cup.

His prior experience also includes a variety of director roles at Liga MX Club América.

De María oversaw a Mexico side that were walloped 7-0 in the 2016 Copa America quarter-final and were embarrassed again in the 2017 Gold Cup, being bounced out by Jamaica.

Despite all this, Juan Carlos Osorio remained in charge. The 2018 edition of El Tri were eliminated in the World Cup round-of-16 for the seventh consecutive time, even after upsetting Germany 1-0 in their opening match.

De Luisa already comes in with a positive resume, helping Mexico share a World Cup bid with the United States and Canada in 2026.
