Argentine club Boca Junior were reportedly offered the chance to sign Mexican shot-stopper Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa.

The former Club América goalkeeper is currently at Standard Liège in Belgium and was the subject of nearly constant transfer rumours during the 2018 World Cup.

Olivier Renard, the sporting director at the Belgian club asserted that Ochoa will stay at Liège for the upcoming season, where he is under contract through June 2019.

“We are very happy with him, he is going to stay with us,” he said in an interview with Marca Claro. Ochoa reported to pre-season training on Friday but strange things can happen during transfer windows.

According to Argentine program Show de Boca y Clarín, Boca Juniors were offered an opportunity to secure the services of Mexico’s starting goalkeeper.

For their part, Boca have long been searching for a solid goalkeeper to match their dynamic attack.

When he is in the final six months of his contract, Ochoa could begin negotiating a summer transfer as a free agent. Whether Boca Juniors move for the Mexican goalkeeper now, in February, or for free after his current deal expires next summer, Ochoa would check the boxes as both a talent and a famous name.
