Mehdi Benatia reportedly turned down a move to Manchester United on Thursday, instead preferring a switch to Qatari club Al-Duhail.

The 31-year-old asked to leave Juventus this month in the hope of earning more game time elsewhere.

The Morocco international has started just five games all season and had been linked with the likes of Marseille and AC Milan.

Multiple sources suggest he is heading to Qatar with Al-Duhail, signing a three-year contract worth €5m plus bonuses.

However, Sportitalia claim that United made a formal offer on Thursday night and were prepared to pay €10m for Benatia.

Benatia though, demanded €4.5m per year wages, while the Old Trafford outfit ‘only’ offered €3.7m.

As such, the centre back chose the Qatar Stars League and is set to complete his switch in the coming days.
