Tottenham will not enter the transfer market this month with Mauricio Pochettino privately insisting it’s not sensible or practical to sign a short-term replacement for Harry Kane.
The England international is out until March with ankle ligament damage and rumours have abound that the north London club will try to bring in another goalscorer before the transfer window ends next week.
But the London Evening Standard have revealed that will not be the case, with the manager not willing to sign a player just for the sake of it.
They report that the manager will revert to his plan D ahead of their EFL Cup semi-final, second leg against Chelsea this week.
Fernando Llorente – Kane’s supposed understudy – will not be given another chance after his dire performance against Fulham at the weekend.
A third option for the north London club was meant to be Dele Alli as a false nine, but the 22-year-old is now set for a three week spell on the sidelines with a hamstring strain.
Instead, Pochettino will opt for Lucas Moura as his central striker and could well give 16-year-old Troy Parrott a place on the bench at Stamford Bridge.
