Mauricio Pochettino urges patience with Tottenham youngsters | OneFootball

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino insists fans need to be patient with the three young summer signings he made.

Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso were seen as the injection of youth Pochettino’s ageing Spurs team needed.

However, despite spending a total of £120m on the trio, none of them have nailed down a starting place yet, with only Ndombele making regular appearances so far for last season’s Champions League finalists.

Tottenham have had a disappointing season to date, which has led to calls to see more of the young talent at their disposal.

Pochettino is not concerned by this, though, and has urged fans not to expect too much too soon from the most recent arrivals.

“It’s important not to put too much responsibility on the new signings,” Pochettino told Sky Sports ahead of Sunday’s visit to Everton.

“They have come to give the team certain qualities, but of course we also understand that they are young players who have to adapt, and who, in Lo Celso and Ndombele’s cases, have come from abroad, from different leagues. The priority is adaption more than performance.”

In the same interview, Pochettino blamed his side’s poor start to the campaign on an “unsettled” summer, which had a detrimental effect on their pre-season preparations.

“It’s something that this year, because of the circumstances, and the individual situations of some players regarding transfers and everything else, we didn’t have.

“We didn’t have the stability and we started working late on trying to find that dynamic, which has affected how the players have performed on the pitch.”

The former Argentina international says he is working hard to discover the dynamic that will lift Spurs’ current malaise and restore the energy and consistency that has brought them four consecutive top-four finishes in the Premier League.
