Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is set to leave Spurs for Argentina after their latest early exit from the World Cup.

According to one outlet, TNT Sports, the Argentine Football Association, known as the AFA, will announce the termination of Jorge Sampaoli’s contract, which wasn’t due to expire until after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Pochettino’s success in England has led him to be a leading candidate at Real Madrid, where he has publicly vowed to manage one day. However, he signed a new contract with Spurs just days prior to Zinedine Zidane shocking the world and leaving Los Blancos.

TNT Sports claims that Pochettino is currently the leading candidate to take over the national side.

Pochettino has a history with the AFA, competing with them in the 2002 World Cup.

Diego Simeone, Matías Almeyda, and Peru coach Ricardo Gareca have also been listed by TNT Sports as alternative candidates.
