Tottenham are yet to make a signing this summer but manager Mauricio Pochettino is keeping his composure.

Only two Premier League clubs, Spurs and Burnley, are entering the last two weeks of the transfer window without bringing any new players into the club.

Spurs have been heavily linked with moves for Jack Grealish and Wilmar Barrios but the clock is ticking and neither deal is close.

“We’re working hard trying to improve the squad,” Mauricio Pochettino has told reporters.

“It’s a market that has only started to move very quickly after the World Cup and then this season the transfer window closes on 9th August.”

In a departure from tradition, Premier League clubs must complete deals before the season begins, making the situation more urgent than it would usually be. Tottenham are generally busy late on in the summer window and, if Pochettino is to be believed, it sounds like they will be again.

“Be sure that we are going to do some movement but like always, we’re working hard. No rash decisions. I’m not worried.

“And of course, very happy with players who have signed new contracts like Harry Kane, Son, Lamela, Davinson [Sánchez] and Michel Vorm – that’s like signing five new players.”

There’s no doubt the contract extensions are important but Tottenham’s squad could do with more depth and keeping players around, while positive, certainly doesn’t provide that.
