Mateo Kovačić explains why Liverpool won't win the title this season | OneFootball

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovačić is seemingly not worried by the threat of Liverpool in this season’s title race.

The two sides are pushing leaders Manchester City hard and the trio are currently unbeaten after 12 games following a blistering start to the season.

However, Kovačić, who has so far made 15 appearances for the Blues having joined on loan from Real Madrid in the summer, is confident Liverpool won’t be lifting the Premier League trophy come May.

Why, you ask? How could someone dismiss the management of Jürgen Klopp, the attacking talent of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané and the safe hands of Alisson?

Well, as 24Sata reported, Kovačić claims: “Liverpool will not be English champions … because they have Dejan Lovren”.

The Croatian was of course joking about his compatriot and made the prediction while they are on international duty together.

Poking fun at his team-mate, perhaps he is teasing Lovren after the centre-back claimed this summer that he is “one of the best defenders in the world”.

Regardless, this is one giggle which could come back to haunt Kovačić come May.

We’re sure Liverpool supporters will have made a note of it, though some could agree.
