Wolfsburg must pay former manager Martin Schmidt a whopping 800,000 euros despite his voluntary resignation.

It is not unusual for a manager to be compensated in the event of their firing. However, according to Bild, the Swiss manager’s contract included a clause that allowed for him to collect 800,000 Euros despite stepping down after taking over Wolfsburg in September following the sacking of Andries Jonker.

Bild also speculates that the German club is paying for Schmidt’s silence as the 50-year-old had internally complained about the lack of football expertise in the club’s management team.

Per the terms of the contract, Schmidt will not be allowed to join another Bundesliga side this season.
