Borussia Dortmund’s bleak run of form continued with a 0-0 draw at Nürnberg on Monday evening.
Lucien Favre’s side had the chance to reestablish a five-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga against the side bottom of the league.
But, without the injured Marco Reus, they failed to create a single clear opportunity.
“It was definitely not enough,” Mario Götze told Eurosport after the match.
“We had to get three points here, that’s very clear.
“We have to develop our way of playing and improve again.
“We have to play more aggressively and get faster into the opponent’s penalty area.”
Götze, who played the entire match, then suggested the team change their approach when desperate for a goal.
The team’s intricate play brought no breakthrough at the Max-Morlock-Stadion and the 26-year-old was looking for a more hopeful approach.
“Maybe we should also try to cross the ball blindly sometimes and go for the second ball,” he said.
“Just to do something and see what happens.”
As well as failing to win each of their last five games across all competitions, Dortmund have now failed to score in back-to-back matches.
Next up? A Bayer Leverkusen team who have scored 14 times in seven games and kept three clean sheets since appointing ex-Dortmund boss Peter Bosz in the winter.
