Marco Silva is confident that Idrissa Gueye has an important role to play for the rest of the season despite being heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in January.

PSG made three separate offers for the Everton midfielder last month but saw each bid rejected outright by the Toffees board.

The player himself admitted that he was interested in leaving Goodison Park for Parc des Princes and was left out of the Everton squad for the first two games post-window.

Marco Silva has since recalled the 29-year-old and has now called on Gueye to shine once again in the Everton midfield.

“He is really aggressive, he is fast in both transitions [attack and defence] and it is important for us,” the manager told evertonfc.com.

“With him there, we can have the other players freer to support the attack.

“He has been really important for us since the beginning of the season. And he was last season also.

“He is playing well and he is doing a good job.”

The Merseyside outfit are currently ninth in the Premier League with their next game away at Cardiff in six days time.
