Manuel Neuer is set sign a two-year extension to his Bayern Munich contract.

That’s according to Sport1, who report that Neuer’s current deal is set to expire in 2021 and his new one will run until 2023.

If true, it seems unlikely that Bayern will move for Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nübel next summer, as has been mooted.

Nübel’s contract is due to expire at the end of the current season and the 23-year-old will be allowed to negotiate a free transfer to another club from January onwards.

The German U21 international had been hotly tipped to join Bayern but he will probably not want to spend the next three years of his career competing with a goalkeeper of Neuer’s stature for the No1 jersey.

But there is still a possibility that Nübel could sign a new deal with Schalke which would include a low release clause a la Timo Werner’s at RB Leipzig.

This would leave open the chance for him to still join Bayern in the future but in the meantime, it seems Neuer won’t be relinquishing his starting spot anytime soon.
