Contrary to reports linking him with a summer switch to Chelsea, it seems Manuel Neuer is set to stay at Bayern Munich for the foreseeable future.

Last week, various outlets claimed Bayern were interested in signing Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen and with Schalke’s Alexander Nübel also heading to the Allianz Arena this summer, there were suggestions Neuer could be ready to move on.

But Goal now report that the German international is not interested in moving abroad and in fact wants to stay at Bayern and try to win the Champions League for a second time.

Furthermore, the 34-year-old is said to have a great relationship with interim coach Hansi Flick and if Flick is appointed on a permanent basis, that would likely give Neuer even more impetus to stay.

However, the goalkeeper is apparently seeking assurances about the futures of influential team-mates like Thiago Alcântara, Thomas Müller and David Alaba, who are all out of contract in the summer of 2021.

Neuer’s current deal also expires in June 2021 and recent reports in Germany claimed that the World Cup winner is unhappy that Bayern have only offered him a short-term extension so far.

But according to Goal, he is in fact more keen to be convinced that the club will be in a position to win titles in the final years of his career.

The player and his agent are understood to have met with the Bayern board last Thursday, but nothing has been signed or even agreed just yet.
