With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Manchester United’s all-time XI.
Today and tomorrow we’re choosing the two centre-backs.
Here are the first three nominees …
A club record signing in 1972, Buchan stuck with United following their relegation to the second division and went on to captain the club for six years.
The tough tackling Scot made 456 appearances in all and lifted the FA Cup in 1977 before eventually saying farewell to Old Trafford in 1983.
Hard as nails is putting it mildly when you describe this guy.
Vidic joined United from Spartak Moscow in 2005 and ended up spending the best part of a decade at the club.
The Serbian was a bedrock in defence throughout the successful second half of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign and as well as being a take-no-prisoners centre-half, he was an intelligent footballer and a great leader too.
Five Premier League titles, three League Cups and the Champions League. Not a bad haul at all.
Jump 🆙 📅 #OnThisDay in 2007, Nemanja Vidic headed home in a 4-0 win over Spurs 👊 #MUFC #GoalOfTheDay–
The defensive bedrock for much of the first half Sir Alex’s tenure was Pallister.
The England international was named PFA Player of the Year in 1992 before going on to win a whopping nine major honours in almost 10 years at the club.
He scored some heavy goals for United over the years too, including two against Liverpool in a title decider at Anfield in 1997.
They would prove to be his final two goals for the club before his departure in 1998. Some parting gift.
Here’s how the team is looking so far …
GK: Peter Schmeichel RB: Gary Neville LB: Denis Irwin CB: Gary Pallister
Check back tomorrow when we will be choosing Pallister’s centre-back partner.
