Manchester United will reportedly sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred as a direct replacement for Paul Pogba.

Stories surfaced earlier this week that José Mourinho had finally lost patience with the France international and will drop him for United’s biggest game of the season – the FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham on Saturday.

Rumours then emanated from sources close to the club that they would look to sell the €100m man this summer.

As such, the Red Devils are on the hunt for an all-action midfielder, and according to the Mirror have ear-marked the Brazilian as Pogba’s natural heir.

The 25-year-old is also wanted by Manchester City, but the Old Trafford outfit are looking to gazump their neighbours by bidding €60m.

Fred has been almost ever-present for the Ukranian champions, starting 17 games and scoring two goals.
