With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Manchester City’s all-time XI.

Yesterday we chose the second of three midfielders. Today we’re choosing the third.

Here are the nominees

3rd – Mike Summerbee

Signed by Joe Mercer from Swindon Town in 1965, Summerbee played over 400 games for City during a decade at Maine Road, and he remains closely tied to the club to this day.

His team-mates nicknamed him “Buzzer” due to his penchant for practical jokes and he played mainly on the wing in a side which won four major trophies in three years.

He also had a fiery temperament, with team-mate Francis Lee once describing Summerbee as the sort of player who would “retaliate first”.

2nd – Kevin De Bruyne

One newspaper described him as the “£60m Chelsea flop” when City signed De Bruyne from Wolfsburg in 2015 and how silly they were soon made to look.

The Belgian was brilliant during his time in the Bundesliga but in his four seasons at City, he has blossomed into the most complete midfielder and one of the finest players in the world.

During the 2017/18 Centurions season it often felt like he was playing a different sport such was his dominance over games, and the Etihad Stadium has never seen a better crosser of the ball than De Bruyne.

And the winner is
 David Silva

Silva was linked with a number of English clubs before he made the move to City just after winning the 2010 World Cup with Spain.

The diminutive playmaker took some time to settle in Manchester but it was a goal against Blackpool in the October of his first season which would prove to be his big arrival on the English stage.

He has never looked back since then and his wand of a left foot and incredible ability to constantly be in space has been a fundamental part of City’s success in recent years.

Last summer he was appointed club captain for what will be his final season at City, and the club’s fans are desperately hoping they haven’t already seen Silva’s last game in a blue shirt.

He is arguably the Premier League’s greatest foreign import and inarguably City’s greatest player of all-time.

Here’s how the team is looking so far

GK: Bert Trautmann RB: Pablo Zabaleta LB: Glyn Pardoe CB: Aymeric Laporte CB: Vincent Kompany CM: Yaya Touré CM: Colin Bell CM: David Silva
