With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Manchester City’s all-time XI.

Today we’re choosing our third and final forward.

Here are the nominees …

3rd – Neil Young

Born not far from Maine Road in Fallowfield, Young began his career at City and went on to become one of the most important players in Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison’s successful sides of the late 1960s and early 70s.

He scored 108 goals in 415 appearances over 11 years, putting him 15th on the all-time goalscorers chart.

And one of those goals was the all important winner in the 1969 FA Cup final.

2nd – Carlos Tevez

The fact Tevez crossed the great Manchester divide from red to blue in 2009 made him an instant City legend.

The Argentine striker was the first proper statement-of-intent signing of the Abu Dhabi era and though it took him a little while to get going, he finished his first season having scored 29 goals in 42 games.

The following season he was made club captain and at the end of it, he lifted the FA Cup – City’s first piece of silverware for 35 years.

But memories of Tevez’s time at City were almost sullied by his bust-up with Roberto Mancini after he allegedly refused to come on as a substitute during a Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich in 2011.

The striker went back to his homeland to play golf for six months but eventually made amends in Manchester by returning to help City during the crucial 2011/12 title run-in.

He left for Juventus in 2013 having scored 74 goals in 148 appearances and won two major trophies. Mission accomplished.

And the winner is … Sergio Agüero

The £38m City spent on acquiring Agüero from Atlético Madrid in 2011 seemed like a lot of money at the time.

But within moments of his debut off the bench against Swansea, it was already beginning to look like a snip.

Agüero took to the Premier League like a duck to water and scored 30 goals in his first season – one of which has gone down as one of the most famous in football history.

The goals have continued to flow over the years and in 2017, the Argentine scored his 178th City goal in a Champions League game against Napoli which meant he surpassed Eric Brook’s record to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.

His tally currently stands at a whopping 254 goals for the club and the three trophies won last season means he has lifted 10 major honours since his move to Manchester.

He is one of the Premier League’s greatest ever foreign imports and City’s finest ever striker.
