We’ve been counting down the list of Manchester City’s 10 greatest jerseys of all time.
Today we’ve chosen this one as the GOAT …
City had already spent a season in the First Division when, in the summer of 1997, Kappa took over from Umbro as the club’s kit manufacturer.
The Italian sportswear manufacturer announced their arrival with one of the most stylish kits English football had ever seen.
It was Maine Road’s first introduction to the “lazer blue” colour and the Kappa logos running down the sleeves and shorts completed the kit perfectly.
The fact it came with a new “continental” style club crest featuring three meaningless stars and a griffin made it the talk of Manchester.
Unfortunately the classy new kit wouldn’t inspire City on the field, and they were relegated to English football’s third tier at the end of the 1997/98 season.
Typical City really.
