Leicester defender Harry Maguire could be the subject of a transfer tussle between Manchester’s two giant clubs this summer.

Manchester United have been linked with Maguire for almost a year now and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to add at least one new central defender to his squad this summer after José Mourinho was unable to do so.

But following Sunday’s announcement that captain Vincent Kompany will leave Manchester City to become the new player-manager of Anderlecht, along with Nicolás Otamendi’s likely departure, Pep Guardiola is also in the market for defenders.

And according to numerous reports, Guardiola has earmarked Maguire as a player he is hoping could bolster his treble-winning squad next season.

The 26-year-old played a vital role in England’s run to the World Cup semi-finals last summer and his impressive performances for the Foxes this season have seen him named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming Uefa Nations League.

Leicester don’t want to sell and the former Hull City man signed a new five-year contract last September.

That means – like most English players – his signature won’t come cheaply, and The Mail speculate that City or United could well be forced to shell out even more than the £75m Liverpool spent on Virgil van Dijk, which remains a world record fee for a defender.
