Manchester City are reportedly set to sign Benfica midfielder Tiago Dantas in January.

Dantas – who turns 18 on Christmas Eve – is out of contract in July 2019 which means only a small compensation fee will need to be paid.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, the details for the transfer have already been sorted with a full announcement expected in January.

The teenager is small in stature but possesses outstanding technical quality and has been described as a “sensation” in some quarters.

According to the report, Dantas will join up with the under-23 side playing in the Premier League 2.

While City may be experts at acquiring young talent, holding onto them is another matter with Brahim Diaz and Phil Foden believed to be unhappy with their lack of opportunities.

Brahim is expected to join Real Madrid in January, while Foden is stalling on contract talks as he aims for clarity in his role.
