Pep Guardiola has reiterated his commitment to Manchester City and refuted claims made by the Argentine FA about his salary.

The City boss was irked by comments made by Claudio Tapia, head of the association in Argentina, who said Guardiola was one of the names considered to replace Jorge Sampaoli but added “you have to have a big wallet” to land him.

Guardiola dismissed the link, insisting the country should be managed by an Argentine and insisted Tapia was wrong to make assumptions about his salary.

“I’m a little bit disappointed because the president of Argentina cannot say that my salary is amazing – to know that he has to know my salary,” he said. “Nobody contacted me because of course I have a contract and I want to stay here with this project until the end.

“But it was not correct to say the reason why and the last one, Argentina national team has to have an Argentinian manager and there are many and they are really good, so I am not going to train Argentina.

“I don’t know what will happen in the future, but he can’t say Pep won’t go because of the salary because for that he has to look at me and know everything. Maybe next time he will do better.”
