Manchester City have the most players out of any other club at the World Cup, which speaks volumes about the quality of talent the Cityzens currently possess.

However, the honour of having 11 players remaining in the competition also puts them in danger at starting the season with a less than full-strength squad, as the players will require plenty of rest after a deep World Cup run.

Brazilians Ederson, Danilo, Fernandinho, and Gabriel Jesus are preparing to face Belgian club team-mates Vincent Kompany and Kevin De Bruyne, while Fabian Delph, John Stones, Kyle Walker, and Raheem Sterling are gearing up to lead England against Sweden.

Benjamin Mendy has played 40 minutes for France and is unlikely to see the field against Uruguay.

In the Premier League, Tottenham are just behind Manchester City with nine players still in the competition. Manchester United trail Spurs with eight squad members in Russia.

Chelsea have seven players still in the World Cup while Liverpool have five of their own. Danny Welbeck is Arsenal’s only remaining representative.

Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Jamie Vardy are still in action for England, while Burnley’s Nick Pope remains on the bench.

England’s World Cup hero Jordan Pickford will continue to be away from the Everton camp for the time being.

Manchester City begin the season away to Arsenal in Unai Emery’s first match in charge of the Gunners. They then come back to the Ethiad to host Huddersfield before an away clash at newly-promoted Wolves.

The first Champions League group stage fixtures take place on September 18 and 19.
