Manchester United are reportedly ready to make Kalidou Koulibaly the most expensive defender in history and will make a €120m bid in January.
José Mourinho made his intentions clear over the summer as he banged the drum for a new central defender.
Toby Alderweireld, Jérôme Boateng, Raphaël Varane and Diego Godin were all linked with the Old Trafford outfit, but in the end, no one was signed.
But according to several stories, including one in the Evening Standard on Friday, United will make amends next month and make a fresh approach for the Napoli man.
United have already had two bids for Koulibaly rejected with Partenopei owner Aurelio De Laurentiis valuing the Senegal international at €120m.
And the Standard say that the board at Old Trafford have finally agreed to release the funds to sign Koulibaly when the window opens in two weeks time.
The €120m would make the 27-year-old comfortably the most expensive defender of all-time, and usurp Paul Pogba as Manchester United’s most expensive signing ever also.
